The latest figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that the state of Queensland has the highest number of people paying the GST.
Queensland’s GST rate is a whopping 44.5 per cent, with the rest of the states and territories seeing their rates lower than that.
It is the second highest per-capita rate in the country, behind New South Wales.
The figures show that about 1.2 million Australians pay GST in Queensland each year.
The state has been in the news recently after Queensland’s parliament passed a bill which made it easier for people to purchase goods and services through the online retail marketplace.
New South Wales was one of only three states to pass a new law to allow its residents to buy groceries from a private retailer.
