A Miami Beach beach bum is missing after his body was found in the water Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the scene just before 6 a.m. and found a black beach bag floating in the area near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Interstate 495, according to Miami Beach Police.
The bag was wrapped in a towel and placed in the back of a squad car, according a statement from the department.
The body was recovered about 10:30 a.t.
The Miami Beach City Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body as 22-year-old James R. Thompson.
The Miami Beach Fire Department was called and took over the search, which included using boat-mounted cameras.
The incident was classified as a “no-suspicious” death.
Miami Beach has a death rate of 1.4 per 100,000 residents.
Thompson was from Miami Beach.
